Domaine Anne Gros Jean-Paul Tollot is composed up of two Burgundian growers that have been doing so for over 20 years. Anne Gros is famous for her Richebourg; whose holdings, in the 18.3 hectare vineyard, are next to the famed Domaine de la Romanee Conti, and go for about $650-$700 a bottle. Though not at this kind of a level, the couple Syrah is very delicate and subtle with more earthiness and smoked meat than anything upon opening the bottle. Decant for 2-4 hours and it blossoms into a delicate flower of a wine with crushed raspberries, crushed lavender, crushed hillside, crushed black cherry, white pepper, and game with mouth-watering acidity. 2015 Domaine Christian Moreau Chablis 1er Cru

First of all, a Chablis producer like Domaine Christian Moreau is exceptionally rare in Alberta and a vintage like 2015 in Chablis send future prices soaring with 2016 being a disaster (some losing up to 75% of the crop), and 2017 not looking too great either, the future yields will be incredibly small, which will probably end up prices only going much higher. The 2015 Vaillon (a single vineyard classified as 1er Cru/Premier Cru (the second highest classification in Burgundy with the Grand Crus being the top and commanding upwards of more than double the amount as the production of Grand Cru is less than 1%) It is worth seeking out 1er Crus in good to exceptional vintages from top producers whose 1er Cru wines compete with some Grand Cru wines. In the case of Christian Moreau Vaillon, we snatched all that came to Alberta (a mere 5 cases). With an average vine age of 56 years, the vines are incredibly healthy and produce concentrated fruit with intense fleshy texture and round mouth feel with steely, flinty minerality we crave from Chablis. All this needs is a tray of oysters around and some folks to share it with. A wine that can be drank now or left in the cellar to age and develop over 10 years.

A genuine Monkey 47 – but just a bit different. The same can be said for the Negroni: a genuine Negroni – but just a bit different when it is made using Monkey 47 – Schwarzwald Sloe Gin. Stir 3 equal parts of Monkey Schwarzwald Sloe Gin, Mancino Vecchio red vermouth and Campari on ice in a glass, serve in a tumbler and garnish with a twist of orange zest.

Rich for a bourgogne. But still of course very young and tight. This is Macon Bussieres, which for white would be Primer Cru, for red it would have to be Gamay, but because its Pinot it gets Bourgogne as opposed to Macon Villages.

Banshee Sonoma Pinot Noir 2013

Vintage: 2013
In many ways the 2013 growing season was a twin to the fabulous 2012 vintage; perhaps not identical but certainly more alike than not. Both vintages had warm, but not extremely hot summers and nearly perfect weather leading up to harvest. The resulting fruit was pristine and we were able to make harvest decisions based on ideals rather than forced circumstances.

Tasting Notes
As with past vintages, the high percentage of Sonoma Coast sourcing (82%) is evident, especially in the aromatics. They tend to deliver in a cool register of bright red fruits and floral notes. In the mouth, a medium weight texture delivers a mixture of mostly red berry notes, accompanied by some earthier forest floor and red tea notes. The finish accentuates the long flavors with well integrated and fine tannins.

Banshee Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 2012

Vintage: 2013
2013 was a flat out fantastic vintage on the Sonoma Coast. Ideal spring conditions allowed for even and successful flowering while a long warm summer provided a perfect incubator for ripening fruit. While the harvest was on the early side, the weather was idyllic and as a result most of the grapes were in pristine condition. Very little sorting was required on our various lots. Chardonnay faired especially well in this vintage and many combine the best aspects of ripeness and freshness.

Tasting Notes
The resulting wine is round and focused in style. Brioche, citrus, and sweet vanilla and are some of the nuances that jump out of the glass. In the mouth its medium weight texture shows off apple, baked pear and lemon pudding. Wild flowers, almonds and wet stone are layered into the finish.

Chalk Hill Estate Chardonnay 2012

Winemaker Notes
When blending our club Chardonnays, we choose the specific barrels that best show off the characteristics of that vineyard. For this Clone 809, tight grain French oak lifts the aromas and flavors without being heavy-handed. We have beautiful fruit at Chalk Hill and want to show it off. This Chardonnay features complex aromas of apricot, mandarin orange and gardenia, followed by cream, sweet red apple, toasted almond and candied lemon peel on the palate. A long and elegant finish completes the picture.
