Situated on the foothills of the Massif Central, the 200 hectares of the AOC Côte Roannaise is the first wine producing area of the valley of the Loire river, near its source. The soil, a mixture of granite and porphyry, and the climate are both ideal for the production of Gamay Saint Romain, the traditional local grape variety.

The main grape variety is Gamay Saint Romain.  Stéphane and his wife, Carine, vinify with the goal of preserving the grapes true expression and isolating the best terroirs to reveal their unique identities.

Domaine Matha Lairis (2015), Marcillac

100% Mansois

A wine from a passionate winemaker Jean Luc Matha located in Bruejouls in the heart of Marcillac valley. Jean-Luc Matha first studied to become a priest before he took over his family’s estate 30 years ago. The estate has been in his family for generations and now totals 15 hectares of vineyards. These are scattered around the town of Bruejouls on slopes so steep that access by four-wheel-drive is not for the faint-hearted. His vines are massale selections from his vineyards rather than commercial clones and this adds to their local authenticity. All vineyard work is by hand and in the cellar, he uses a very light touch. Jean-Luc’s wines are some of the finest, fruitiest and most forwardly aromatic of the region. They are favourites of sommeliers and are to be found in some of the best restaurants and specialty wine shops in Europe, the United States and Japan.

Cuvée “Lairis” 2015 came from 30+ year-old Fer Servadou vines. The grapes were handpicked and destemmed then fermented for 10 to 12 days in cement tanks with natural yeasts. The wine was aged in stainless steel tanks before being bottled lightly filtered and with just a touch of sulphur added. This medium bodied wine is a deep ruby; aromas of cassis and strawberry, ginger, paprika and white pepper burst out of the glass. On the palate the fruit carries through alongside a noticeable minerality and wonderful freshness that compliments the smooth tannins. This wine is food friendly, has good minerality, bright fresh fruit and is full of energy and personality. It has a sense of place: a personality of a particular grape grown in particular soils. It’s a wine that you can open alone and it’s gone in 45 minutes… and you don’t know how it happened. Serve in a Burgundy stem on the cool side like you would a Cru Beaujolais or good Cabernet Franc from the Loire.

Mencino is the only red sweet vermouth in the market that is aged one year in italian oak.  One year in oak gives this vermouth a unique essence of cherry, raison, dark chocolate, spice and vanilla along with a traditional bitter sweet taste.

An artisan gin made with a combination of 47 botanicals, must try!

A genuine Monkey 47 – but just a bit different. The same can be said for the Negroni: a genuine Negroni – but just a bit different when it is made using Monkey 47 – Schwarzwald Sloe Gin. Stir 3 equal parts of Monkey Schwarzwald Sloe Gin, Mancino Vecchio red vermouth and Campari on ice in a glass, serve in a tumbler and garnish with a twist of orange zest.
Cheers!

Banshee Sonoma Pinot Noir 2013

Vintage: 2013
In many ways the 2013 growing season was a twin to the fabulous 2012 vintage; perhaps not identical but certainly more alike than not. Both vintages had warm, but not extremely hot summers and nearly perfect weather leading up to harvest. The resulting fruit was pristine and we were able to make harvest decisions based on ideals rather than forced circumstances.

Tasting Notes
As with past vintages, the high percentage of Sonoma Coast sourcing (82%) is evident, especially in the aromatics. They tend to deliver in a cool register of bright red fruits and floral notes. In the mouth, a medium weight texture delivers a mixture of mostly red berry notes, accompanied by some earthier forest floor and red tea notes. The finish accentuates the long flavors with well integrated and fine tannins.

Chalk Hill Estate Chardonnay 2012

Winemaker Notes
When blending our club Chardonnays, we choose the specific barrels that best show off the characteristics of that vineyard. For this Clone 809, tight grain French oak lifts the aromas and flavors without being heavy-handed. We have beautiful fruit at Chalk Hill and want to show it off. This Chardonnay features complex aromas of apricot, mandarin orange and gardenia, followed by cream, sweet red apple, toasted almond and candied lemon peel on the palate. A long and elegant finish completes the picture.
