Description
Friuli-Venezia Giulia is an autonomous region of Italy, in the far northeast corner, bordered by Austria to the north and Slovenia to the east. The wines’ characteristics depend on whether they are made in the Mediterranean climate in the south closer to the shores of the Adriatic sea, or the alpine continental climate in the north. Typically wines produced in the latter (where this one is) are fresh, fruit-driven, and very aromatic in style, as might be expected from a cool-climate wine zone. Ā The vines bask in bright sunshine while temperatures are moderated by the altitude, helping the grapes to reach full phenolic ripenessĀ and aromatic depth before their sugar levels peak.
The Pinot Grigio from Alturis is matured on lees in stainless steel tanks, giving it more depth and texture. This is absolutely textbook for what Pinot Grigio should be.
