Description

Sagrado, one of the oldest port wine estates in PinhĂŁo, the heart of the Douro region, is owned by two centenary families, the descendants of the iconic Marquis Nicolas Alexandre de SĂŠgur, proclaimed by King Louis XV of France “Prince of Wines”, and the CĂĄlem family, one of the oldest producers and shippers of Port wines. They have 20 hectares of terraced vineyards with some of the best soils and aspects the region has to offer.

Their white is a blend of Rabigato, Gouveio, Viosinho, and CĂ´dega de Larinho…all varietals which I’m sure almost no one on our market has tried before. Anyway, all the grapes are harvested and sorted by hand, pressed gently, fermented in temperature controlled stainless tanks, and aged on lees for 6 months before bottling. Since this is a 2016, it has definitely developed in-bottle, and drinks sort of like a Bordeaux white with a little more prominence of stone fruit notes.
