Description

Sattlerhof is one of the leading producers in Austria’s South Styria region, known for their Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Pinot Blanc. The Sattler family has been growing wine in the village of Gamlitz (less than 10km away from the border with Slovenia) since 1887. Willi Sattler is the current family member in charge, and has grown the estate to 40 hectares of organically farmed vines in some of the region’s most famous vineyards, including grand cru sites Kranachberg and Pfarrweingarten.

This Sauvignon Blanc, if going by French-style nomenclature (which the STK association that they are a part of does), would be “village-level”, and likewise takes its name from the nearby village. In other words, it is neither their entry-level expression, nor one of their top wines, but a wonderful in-between that drinks very similarly to a Sancerre.
