Description

Good Burgundy at reasonable prices is a very nearly dead category, with village level stuff from Cote d’Or producers often starting at a bare minimum of $50-$60 as I write this in 2023. Fortunately, the south of Burgundy is usually much less pretentious, if perhaps a little less reliable on the whole. We have done our homework though, and found one that absolutely holds up. This one is from a number of climats. Some are centred around Macon, which is the absolute furthest south you can go in the “true” Burgundy before you run into the north of Beaujolais, and some climats from Beaujolais are included too. As such, this wine is simply AOC Coteaux Bourguignons.

The blend is comprised of a 40/60 blend of Pinot Noir, and its offspring Gamay Noir, skewing in favour of Gamay.

The blend of Gamay from granitic soils with Pinot Noir from limestone and clay soils, along with the aging in vats provides a well-balanced, aromatically vibrant, and delicate wine.
